I agree and disagree. The United States did not intervene in Latin America to control the price of bananas...and the war against Islam, I believe, is only coincidentally about oil... >>> The US is the sole superpower and has a clear goal of maintaining its military and economic hegemony over the entire globe especially after the demise of the USSR. These objectivevs are achieved through the control of capital flows. This means that if global transactions continue to be made in US dollars then other countries need to have the US dollars in their treasuries. This is the case with the biggest trade of all. OIl. Over 85% of Middle Eastern capital flows go into the US. THis props up the US dollar maintaining its hegemony and allows cheap credit to US business as well as allowing the US government to continue to borrow money to fund its over-bloated military and maintain its military hegemony. Republicans can't get into office by telling the truth of what they plan to do once there. They can't admit that they're all about increasing the means by which the wealthy can get wealthier. So they talk to us about Gay marriage...about abortion...about attack by terrorists...or Communists etc. But their real aim is to roll back the changes brought about through the Constitution...which they also can't admit up front. >>> Agreed. That's why they are called neo-cons, as in neo con-men and hopefully one day neo-con-victs. Their real aim is to maintain US hegemony and control the world economic system through the control of capital flows. Gay marriage abortion etc are simply wedge issues used to polarise and split their opposition. The erosion of the constitution is a consequence of this hegemony and allows them to do things that the constitution specifically forbids. I agree with you about god cop bad cop....Obama will be the good cop and there will come another bad cop...and then another good one and so on. The actual goal of American policy is to grow as powerful as possible while not paying full price. >>> Exactly and the erosion of the constituition allows them to grow powerful. In America bridges, schools, roads etc are falling apart. Thrity years of give-away tax breaks to the wealthy has resulted in not enough money to maintain the country...we're like a third world country now where the government can barely afford to build a building but has nothing left to maintain it with. Cutting taxes is one come-on...even though the acumulative effect will be disasterous...another pretext has been ENEMIES. >>> The neo-cons are a combination of big business interests and US hegemonic interets. Third world nations and their own poor matter little. I venture to say that if there wasn't a drop of oil in Muslim countries the United States would still have put the Bush Doctrine in place...we would still have raged over the MidEast, not with the intention of spreading democracy and freedom...but to torture...abuse...kill and make sure there will be a growing number of enemies, even as they kill a few of them off...so they can use them as the one sure means to get into office....because when they get into office, they can set about making the kinds of changes and tricks which form the core of their program. >>> Disagree with you. Iraq had enormous strategic importance to control it at the heart of the Middle East would've theoreticaly ensure the maintenance of US hegemony and bankrolled its military spending for years to come. --------------------- |
