I don't like violence or fighting, but when I did get into a fight it was with three Muslim Iranians who were picking on a Jewish Iranian kid who was walking outside our school with his little sister. One of the three threw pennies on the ground in front of him and threatened and humiliated him in front of his sibling, and he, of course, was terrified, but luckily a car approached, possibly his mom, and he and his sister got away. Having witnessed that, I couldn't sleep most of the night. I was enraged, and this was the period were I had zero tolerance for Muslims, in addition to that, all of my friends and teachers were Jewish. The next day I saw the same three guys standing outside my school, with their shirts off. I could have just gone home, but back then I was an Assyrian warrior. Without any back up, I walked up to the biggest one out of the three and asked why not he and his friends pick on someone their own size. The big guy asked if I wanted to fight him, and I said of course, but just as I got everyone's attention focused on me and him, I quickly turned to my right and grabbed the guy who was throwing pennies at the kid, and head-butted him in the jaw, from which he fell on his ass. To my surprise, a Mexican gangster whom I didn't know, and a Black football player stepped in and said if anyone touches me, they're going to get jumped. Like I said, I don't like fighting or violence, but this fight was one of the most memorable experiences of my youth, because I was in the right. Thanks to my father teaching me how to box, I took the guy I head-butted apart, even though he had a sharp ring with which he cut me on my forehead (a scar I still proudly carry). With every left-hook, over-hand right, upper-cut, combination from downstairs to upstairs, I left the guy with numerous cuts on his face, and a few wobbly teeth in his stupid mouth. When it was over, I went home, and took care of my cut. (I actually looked rather handsome with that war wound.) The following day I went to school and everywhere I walked, I could hear the whispers behind me, and the smiling girls in front of me. I went to my second period drama class with Ms. Landau and gave, what she thought, an excellent performance playing Stanley Kowalski in my rendition of the character Brando played in Tennessee Williams', A Streetcar Named Desire.. The cut on my forehead was a plus... or what Ms. Landau called, "the real method." --------------------- |
