The source of all this fear is based in religion, mainly Christianity. DEMONS! WITCHES! HOMOSEXUALS! SORCERERS! led illiterate and uneducated people to rush to the church and demand that the priest rid these "devils" from our midst. Fast-forward to the present time, the secular period. JEWS! COMMUNISTS! MUSLIMS! TERRORISTS! lead literate and educated people to rush to the White House and demand that the President rid these un-American "devils" from our midst. As far as Jews, we had the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) led by a paranoid, opportunistic senator Joseph McCarthy, and his closeted Jewish lawyer, Roy Cohen, best known for sending Ethyl and Julius Rosenberg (fellow Jews) to their death claiming that they were Soviet spies. With the end of the Cold War Part I, we are now in the phase of Cold War Part II, which includes Russia (of course) but in lieu of Communism, the new infinite enemy (here and in the afterlife) is political Islam. It's an "all you can eat deal!" A buffet-type war and death where the salad is always fresh, and the meat is... well, bloody as hell! bon appetit!
