"White people found it impossible to believe that police set Blacks up...planted evidence and lied and had special squads to murder them and steal drugs from them, beat them and kill them in prisons, etc and etc." -- The history of police assassinations, 'false flags' and set-ups in the 20th Century goes back to the targeting of immigrants from eastern and southern Europe who came here and fought for labor rights by joining unions and anarchist groups. Sacco and Vanzetti were set-up and murdered by the state mainly for their politics and for being Italian. Jews, of course, were seen as "violent agitators" and "Bolsheviks" during the Red Scare, a period which Noam Chomsky says was worst than post 9/11. Most of the old left was wiped out and imprisoned because they were against Rockefeller capitalism and Wilson's march to the First World War. The Industrial Worker of the World (IWW), or the Wobblies, were destroyed from the repression that swept through the nation during that period. Then the COINTELPRO was set up in the '50s atmosphere of McCarthyism to disrupt the activities of Communist Party USA and Socialist Workers Party, and other groups like the KKK, though unlike the KLAN, the CPU and SWP didn't have prominent judges, politicians and cops as its members. In the 60s and 70s, COINTELPRO was used by the Feds to "neutralize" the Black Panthers, the Brown Berets, the American Indian Movement, the New Left, and all the different groups of Black nationalists, Chicanos, American Indians, Women, and anyone the Nixon administration perceived as a threat. Former members of the FBI now admit that the Bureau was indeed involved in the assassinations of Panther leader Fred Hampton and Mark Clark in Chicago, including other members in California, and the framing of the Vietnam vet, Geronimo Pratt, for a bogus murder rap, for which he served 27 years and was finally released in '97, thanks to Johnnie Cochran. Last year before Occupy Wall Street and the Arab Uprisings, the FBI raided the homes Palestinian Solidarity activists and confiscated their computers and files, and issued a subpoena to each activist to appear before a federal grand jury. And last month in Chicago, Occupy activists protesting against NATO were arrested as alleged terrorists: "According to an exhaustive report from Firedoglake’s Kevin Gosztola,”three Occupy activists raided on May 16 and disappeared for a period of time by Chicago police were brought before a bond judge [on Saturday] and officially charged with material support for terrorism, conspiracy to commit terrorism and possession of explosives or explosive or incendiary devices.” The young men’s lawyer, Michael Deutsch of the National Lawyers Guild, described the charges as “fabricated” and “based on police informants and provocateurs which is a common pattern that we have seen against people who are protesting.” -- Salon May 22, 2012 Chicago's fishy NATO arrests A former Chicano activist said that COINTELPRO is still active, "maybe it's not called COINTELPRO, maybe it's called something else". --------------------- |
