Rashad, I have a book I'd like to recommend if you'll be able to find it. It's called "Essay on Liberation", by Herbert Marcuse. It coincided with the student and workers' revolt in Paris in '68. Personally, I have a hard time understanding him - he comes from the esoteric Marxist Frankfurt School of critical thinking. You may need to know just a bit of Marx, Freud and what was happening during the Vietnam War, but I think you can break it down and understand it. It's one of his easier books to read. The other is "One-Dimensional Man", and there are clips on YouTube of lectures by his students explaining his theories. The other thing I think you may like would be Amiri Baraka's (formerly known as Leroy Jones) poetry when he became an Marxist and a Muslim.. He got a lot of heat when he was the poet Laureate of New Jersey back in 2001 and he wrote the poem,"Somebody Blew Up America", about 9-11 because there was a line in the poem about 4,000 Jews not showing up for work that day.. I like some of his earlier works, I don't know anything about 4,000 Jews not going to work... he should have given that some thought before publishing it cause now he's branded as an anti-Semite. --------------------- |
