Not to mention how they try to use any tragic event such as church bombings as a way to unite. They still can't truly unite even with the violent events because Chaldeans and other Christians figure these lunatics out. What our boys want is for all Iraqi Christians to call themselves Assyrians and then they try to get Christians in Syria, Turkey etc all to become Assyrians because all of those communities are Assyrian in the minds of our nationalists. Their allegiance is to their church and religion. Nationalism just becomes the cover up to blend it in with religion. They say all Arabic speaking Christians are Assyrian, and I have heard some go as far as even saying those in Jordan, the few in Yemen and other Arab countries are all Assyrians. There are no Christian Arabs in their minds because Arabs are Muslim. They won't accept Muslims as Assyrians and even if they speak Aramaic fluently because their entire ethnic claim is based on religion. It used to be only Nestorians who were even considered true Assyrians but now they have grown desperate to achieve their goal so there is a very hard effort and pressure for Chaldeans, Suryoye and all the rest to consider themselves Assyrian. If you ever spent time with the elder ladies, the ones who love to gossip and talk about their church all day, you will notice that Chaldean granny uses her title to mean Catholic(her church) and the other uses her Assyrian identity to mean COE. They may be old and stupid to our nationalists but these women know what they are talking about because they are following tradition and that means the previous generations always saw these names as denominational names and not nationalism. Religion was most important back then and still is especially to the elderly but then came nationalism and this is where the propagandists try tool everyone about these names. They like us to believe the "Suraye" title meant Assyrian all along and not Syriac(Christians who speak that language). That's when the lost "A" comes up. --------------------- |
