I misquoted the forefather ("the masses, they are a beast, sir"). This is where it's from: "All communities divide themselves into the few and the many. The first are rich and well born, the other, the mass of the people. The voice of the people has been said to be the voice of God; and however this maxim has been quoted and believed, it is not true in fact. The people are turbulan and changing; they seldom judge or determine right. Give therefore the first class a distinct PERMANENT share in the government. They will check the unsteadiness of the second; and as they cannot receive any advantage from change, they will therefore maintain good government." (1787) "Your people, sir, they are a great beast" (1792) -- Alexander Hamilton's exchange with Thomas Jefferson Some similarities to Plato's ideal society, as you notice I emphasized his emphasis of "a disticnt PERMANENT share" which is like Plato's "Noble Lie" that the rulers are in the position of being the overlords permanently for they have gold runnng through their veins. Also, if you recall Parenti's breakdown of "column A" and "column B".. was it A and B or 1 and 2? --------------------- |
