Your analysis of Hitchens is on the money. It seems to me each time (and I'm really interested to see his debate with Michael Parenti) that he debates a former comrade (Galloway, Ali, and perhaps, Parenti) his reasoning fails and he falls into mere character assiassination tactics, snide remarks and rebuking audience memebers (he did this again with Ali). I love how Ali put him in his place when it came to his redundant misuse of the concept of "Fascism". It was also refreshing to hear Ali pointed out (if I remember correctly) that the only reason that the cell that carried out the operation that resulted in the 911 atrocities was successful was because they had the funding of U.S. backed Saudis and the training by the C.I.A. and I.S.I. There is a definite pattern with the U.S. trained mercenaries who go "rogue" and end up attacking the "empire" or causing havoc near her borders. Look at the violence down south in Mexico with Las Zetas. Who do you think trained these guys? It was the U.S. who organized, funded and trained this bunch at the School of the Americas in the '90's to crush the popular revolt of indeginous Indios in Las Chiapas and to assassinate the leader of the movement, Sub-Comandante Marcos and his resistance group Las Zapatistas. --------------------- |
