...there was never, in the modern world, slavery like there was in America. Everyone else stopped the slave trade and freed slaves except for America....they stopped the slave trade later than any other Christian nation but substituted for it Jim Crow Racism which, in many ways, was worse...because now Blacks were "free", free to starve and being free and no longer anyone's property, any protection they'd had as slaves, as valuable property, was gone...now they were neither human nor property and could be beaten and whipped and hanged with impunity all the while receiving none of the benefits of "freedom" except the freedom to starve and be killed at will. To reconcile the South the Federal government reneged all its promises to freed slaves who for a short while could vote and even be elected to office...but the Southerners complained and to get their votes, the Feds abandoned Reconstruction and left the Blacks to the tender mercies of the whites, seething with resentment at the loss of their "way of life". This abandonment more than balanced out the Proclamation Declaration...and had Blacks not finally taken matters into their own hands in the Civil Rights movement, Jim Crow would still rule the South and it would have remained hillbilly and barefoot and ignorant as it was....and just barely isn't today, thanks to Blacks. And the South didn't "abandon" slavery..it took a war between brothers during which over 600,000 fellow American Christians killed each other...more dead Americans than in all the wars in which Americans fought put together. If Blacks "didn't do that much" then why did whites pay thousands of dollars for just one? For decoration? And if they weren't crucial to the South why the war? --------------------- |
