So far, the MSM reports that the perpetrators of the Paris attacks were EU citizens and not Syrian refugees, but somehow people want to scapegoat the poor and terrified families who've run away from the terror and mass violence of IS. As far as Salafism or Wahhabism, it seems to me to be an offshoot of Arab Sunna akin to what we in the U.S. call Christian Identity: "Christian Identity is a religious ideology popular in extreme right-wing circles. Adherents believe that whites of European descent can be traced back to the "Lost Tribes of Israel." Many consider Jews to be the Satanic offspring of Eve and the Serpent, while non-whites are "mud peoples" created before Adam and Eve." This is somewhat similar to the way in which extremist Sunna or Salafi view Iranian and Arab Shia, or the Sufi as "un-Islamic" and the Yazidi as "satanic". Add some guns and meth to this mix and you get the horror show that's been destroying the Middle East since 2011... which really started with the 2003 invasion and occupation of Iraq, the dismantling of the Ba'ath, and the free-hand given to Shia militias and death squads who tortured, raped, killed, and mutilated the Sunna former Ba'ath, or whom they considered to be Ba'athists. I've read many articles in which the Sunna in Anbar reluctantly disprove of the IS, and express more fear about the Shia ruling over them. Iraq as we knew it is gone, forever. No trust left.
