...we did NOT call ourselves either Aturaya or Ashuraya...we called ourselves SURAYE...in other words SYRIANS...which is the Greek/Jewish form of ARAMAENS. In all my years I NEVER heard us call ourselves anything but Suraye...in our own tongue. Now we claim that Suryae means the same as Aturaye and always did....but that's just nationalist bullshit. The so-called Assyrian ethniity was invented by Europeans for their own purposes...and we were only too fat and happy to believe them. However, if we want to believe that any Assyrians exist today, and we claim that it is only logical and reasonable to believe so, then we have to accept that there are Muslims and Christian AND atheist Assyrians...otherwise this all just another bit of Christian nonsense. --------------------- |
