...Dr Joseph said it best, and gently; the Nestorians have a proud history of achievement in scholarship and the part they played in translating Greek texts from Arabic to Aramaic to Greek thus helping save and spread them to Europe....though I'm not fond of any missionary enterprise still, against great odds they traveled all the way to China, which is an achievement in itself, regardless of what foolishness they attempted to poison minds with when they got there. And, incidentally without a Roman Army to back them up with the Sword, their message did not "spread". They were just tolerated, something Christians have never afforded other religions. ..he said that to point to the contrast of what they gave up when they decided to become Assyrians; in order to lay a "national" claim to Iraq, something they could not have done as Nestorians i.e. as a religious sect. ...ever since then there has developed a great self-loathing among us because we've created a false narrative wherein we are the heirs of the great Assyrian Empire...which can only lead to the question , "Well then, what the hell happened to you?" ..as Nestorians and Jacobites etc., we had nothing in particular to be ashamed of...people could hold their heads up high as guardians of the Bible...but as descendants of Ashurbanipal? No...nothing but shame lies in that direction. ...if we don't ask the question; "what happened to you?"... you can bet other people do.... --------------------- |
