The Iranian-Swedish film maker, Nahid Persson Sarvestani, who made "The Queen and I", about a former communist who confronts Farah, the Shah's widow, has recently made a film called, "My Stolen Revolution", in which she interviews a group of female communist activists who were imprisoned by the the cleric regime and tortured... even raped, illustrating how the old and the new are more or less the same ("meet the new boss, same as the old boss" -- The Who: "We Won't Get Fooled Again"). Quite interestingly, she and numerous other secular socialists and communists come to the conclusion that the clerics are much more violent and repressive than the Shah and his posse. Since you mentioned what I call the Kapo Syndrome, there is a segment in the film where one of the women says that one of the most devastating experiences she had was when some of her comrades began praying and embracing Islam, considering that all of the communist militants were atheists. But what was even more of a slap in the face was when some of the secular inmates began to pray five times a day, and even worse, they became Kapos and engaged in the beatings and humiliations of their former comrades. If you're interested, here's the film... http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/witness/2015/03/stolen-revolution-150331143408257.html --------------------- |
