...I still can't figure out what the people who set it up thought they were achieving. It seems to me to be the very opposite of what an "encyclopedia" should be...or any sort of professionalism where knowledge is concerned. You would have to have a lot of contempt for knowledge to make up a place like that. I mean they are PROUD that they are all volunteers. You can have volunteers at a hospital but they aren't the surgeons and nurses, for serious things we all demand professionals. You can have some faith in the editorial board at the Britannica...or Doubleday or Scribners or Brill...but how can you have any confidence in the volunteers at Wikipedia? Seems to me that when people need DIS-information, they turn to Wikipedia. At its core it is anti-knowledge. It truly is THE place for "opinion"...no wonder our assyrians are over there! --------------------- |
