true too. They have called themselves by many names except "ASSYRIANS". There were some who even identified as Jews. This was before Assyrian was being used, of course. It is more than likely that all of the Nestorians, Jacobites, Chaldeans, etc have mixed ancetsors somewhere down the line. What connects them is the language and churches. Not all Arabs of today, from Morocco to Jordan, are the same people with same pure background. They are mixed with all kinds of stuff and it's the language/religion which connects them. What our heroes try try to use to their advantage, which doesn't really work, is the location they're from(Iraq), religion(Christianity) and language(Aramaic). I Still don't get how being a fanatic Christian or speaking Aramaic makes one an Assyrian or proves that someone is related to Ashur Banipal. Out of all three groups(Nestorians, Chaldeans and Jacobites), those who became Assyrians have taken it to highest extremes. The others aren't so desperate and die hard about it. They still can identify as Iraqis, Syrians, etc and don't have a heart attack from it. --------------------- |
