Since all of my teachers were Jewish I never went near Nietzsche except after I read Jim Morrison's biography which illustrated his love of Nietzsche's philosophy and how the idea of the ubermensch inspired him to be who he became. But I lost interest in both Nietzsche and Morrison when I picked up Dostoyevsky's Notes From Underground. Most of what I've read had to do with Marxism, Existentialism and Freud, three modes of thought which are synthesized in some of the works of Herbert Marcuse (Markuza) and Erich Fromm. I also like Camus and Sartre, but I'm moving away from political thought, especially after reading Krishnamurti today. Like yourself, I've never joined any group or organisation and have no desire to do so. I initially wanted to make political films due to my experience while living through and witnessing the Iranian revolution (1977-1979) unfold as a child, and being exposed to the films of Costa-Gavras (Z), Bernardo Bertolucci (The Conformist) and Gillo Pontecorvo (The Battle of Algiers). As great as those films are, I now find anything having to do with politics limiting my artistic palette. So I plan to move toward some fiction this year, perhaps start by re-reading Miller's Tropic of Cancer, which I read when I was twenty years old, and will possibly enjoy much more since I'm older and have had more experiences in life. I've read some portions of the second volume of Nin's diary and maybe a short essay from Durant in a philosophy book, but I can't remember enough to be able to discuss it.
