Assyrians of antiquity and the modern church of the east are always viewed separately and rightly so because they are. Thanks for admitting that you are just christians. As for your language, it's not unique or special. It doesn't make you assyrian. You are a christian community which span off from the jewish religion and you speak aramaic(not assyrian, and a language spoken by many people and especially by eastern christians). The mention of "assyrians" after 612 only applies to the historical area and the various people who were living there. It didn't have anything to do with them being assyrians, and the modenr assyrians didn't know about the ancients and that's because they are not the same. You are christians of various backgrounds who speak a form of aramaic. The Greeks passed through the area 200 years after the fall and they made no mention of any assyrians, and that's because they were long gone as a people and identity.
