I just got that book but haven't cracked it open yet. I'm interested to know how much he covers the International Workers of the World (IWW aka the "Wobblies") and figures like Eugene Debbs. We are not taught at school, unless luckily you meet a cool professor who'll turn you on to the long tradition of unions backed by anarchists and socialists. I remember in High School there was only two sentences covering Sacco and Vanzetti, or later, the Rosenbergs in the 50's, and it was always in a negative light as if they were terrorists (in both cases they were killed by the state, for their politics and their race - Sacco and Vanzetti being Italians and the Rosenbergs, Jews). Too bad we lost Zinn this last year.. Chomsky's getting up there, too. They were good friends, both from Boston. Chomsky's wife died and Zinn and his wife, too. Was it Miller who said that "all the heroes are either dead or dying"? --------------------- |
