-- This idea was suggested in the film Zeitgeist, but it had nothing to do with Muhammad. The argument was that the story of Jesus as we know it is not original because there were other figures like Mithra, for example, who's myth of birth, teachings, death, and resurrection are similar to that of the story of Jesus. The late historian, John Henrik Clarke not only suggests, but insists that today's three major religions derive from earlier sources in Africa.. I think he makes this point in "Christianity Before Christ" and "Who Exactly is a Jew?"
