I thought the same thing when I saw that in the film. Around the same time (mid to late 60s) in the San Fernando Valley, Jews were also being "allowed" to buy property and finally move out of the "ghetto" of Boyle Heights, now a "barrio" housing low-income Latinos, also known as "Barrio Boyle Heights" or BBH.
