What are they pissed about? Maliki is not dumb obviously and he realizes that this is an Iraqi Christian sect which uses this name as their identity. Maliki being from southern Iraq regards the Babylonians as the ancestors of his but he don't shout that from rooftops nor demand special rights for Shiites. For over 2000 years they weren't recognized as Assyrians and they weren't even aware of themselves being what they claim to be today yet now they're angry. The ottomans didn't know them as Assyrians nor did the Arab dynasties which ruled Iraq in past.
