....speaking of ignorance as a disease, it is interesting that the Church forbade anyone reading the bible for hisself...in fact, even to own your own copy meant death...contrast this with the Muslim insistence that each believer had an obligation to read the Quran...and all must know how to read...the literacy rate among Muslims was far, far higher than it ever was among Euro-Christians. This enforced ignorance is just what the Church wanted...Islam wanted educated followers and prized learning. In Muslim Cordoba there were 70 libraries each with over a million texts at the same time as there not only were no libraries in Europe but the Church was actively destroying ancient texts...it's thanks to the Arabs and Moors and Muslims that ancient Greek texts and much more survived...if the Church had had its way all those texts would have been burned and only the Bible spared..and at that only the clergy would be allowed to read and write....and it SHOWS! Personal ignorance is still highly prized among Christians. --------------------- |
