-- Regarding lynchings: Tariq Ali pointed out quite correctly that when the lynchings of black men (and some women) took place, schools were shut down, children, teachers and the parents of white students would gather and cheer while the "nigger" was castrated, his cock shoved down his throat, his mouth taped, while the crowds cheered while watching kerosene splashed on his bleeding crotch, a rope wrapped around his neck, a match lit to burn his lower extremity, while a bunch of church going good Christians slowly -- and with sadistic pleasure -- slowly pulled the rope (doing God's good work); and not only schools shut down, the entire town shut down, shops and stores; beauty salons and booze saloons -- it was as if Jesus returned, only this time he was Black (which he was), and instead of being crucified, he was LYNCHED! Whites try to downplay the brutal, barbaric history of lynchings by claiming that it only happened a few dozen times. BULLSHIT! It happened a few hundred or more times. And the thing with the castration is a sick, insecure curiosity white men have of Blacks. This barbarism didn't happened in the 7th century, it took place in the 20th century in a first world country. These inhuman "happenings" were similar to tailgate parties prior to Football games, were people drink, eat and laugh while an innocent human guilty of being the wrong color gets castrated, barbecued and slowly hanged and asphyxiated on his severed member. To call this a double standard is an understatement. Fourteen-year old Emmett Til got his face pummeled to mush for the "Reckless Eyeballing", meaning he looked at some white woman, and maybe smiled. HOW DARE HE? This was 1955. This is the country and decade the Tea Party and the Republicans want to "take back".
