....from years of reading the various forums the one phrase or notion that has most appeared is someone telling someone else to WAKE UP! As if an opponent must be asleep at the wheel...as if no one could be wide awake and STILL disagree. It all comes from the religious foundation of this ditzy identity...this nayshun. Religious people do actually believe that oponents, when not on the side of the Devil, are merely unaware of the errors of their ways and need to be AWAKENED. People of a more secular turn of mind, especially where politics is concerned, know well that their oponents have ideas and values as legitimate as any others, though different...even very different. Hence among those who are not steeped in religion to their eyeballs, political discussions donīt entail calls for the opposition to WAKE UP, as if from a day dream, rather they focus on issues and debate those. These people, being entirely religious, treat dissent as if it was heresy and react accordingly. --------------------- |
