...I was following his lecture just fine...he was criitical of religious moderates because he says they provide cover for extremists...I agree...he also said that moderates won't allow us to criticize religions or even point out differences between them....then he said that Tibetans have suffered even more than Palestinians, but you do not see Tibetan monks setting off bombs as a result, killing innocent Chinese....this is where my problems begin...I agree that Tibetan priests are not prone to political action.....but, why use Islam as the foil? His implication is that Islam DOES get people to blow up innocent people....but there is another religion that blows up even more, much more, innocent civilians...there is a religion that starves children to death...that wipes out indigenous people, that continued slavery long after others had abandoned it...there is a religion that has roamed the world and still does, killing where it pleases...there is a religion which brought two world wars to us in which 70 million people were killed...there is a religion that conducted the Holocaust, killing millions JUST for their religion and no other "crime"...and that religion is NOT Islam.... My beef with Harris is that he goes for the cheap shot..it is fashionable now to slam Islam because it also provides a COVER for our crimes against the people who HAPPEN to be Muslim and, most significantly, also HAPPEN to have a lot of oil. If Harris really wants to make his point, he would expose Christianity as the more bloody and violent religion....Christians were killing and stealing long before they ran into Muhammad..... --------------------- |
