The Assyrian mind, when contemplating its Assyrianism, is not an elegant thing. Like a pitbull or a bear trap, once its jaws snap shut on something you have to cut its head off, or saw through it, before it will release its grip and think a little. But that operation will ruin it so what’s the point? Fortunately I quit school in the third grade but I had a professor who said before you concoct an elaborate study or questionnaire ask your self how likely it is that your results, if they fly in the face of accepted custom, will be put into effect anywhere….that is, if you actually want to do anything. In the last issue of zindalite our own Magpie Yonan, who’s slogging her way through state college, she refused on principle to apply o Princeton, in search of an advanced degree in sociology laid out a thorough and tortured proposal for a study that was skewed towards what she wanted to find out anyway…sort of like Dr Goebbles coming up with a scientific study that would prove he was justified in all his prejudices towards Jews. Her study, Dr Magpie assured us, would settle once and for all that she is a direct descendant of Ashurbanipal…that Arabs illegally conquered BetNahrain…that they persecuted and denied her religion and heritage…that she is owed a part of Iraq and that all the people she hates are hateful. Though the questions to be asked weren’t included they would go something like, “are you the low-life asshole who disagrees with me on…”? Like any third-rate researcher who needs an excuse to live she doesn’t ask herself what will be the practical outcome of all this huffing and puffing even if she should ‘scientifically discover” that she’s right in everything she believes is right. What good can it possibly do? She could avoid the pretense of science by simply deciding ahead of time that her study and survey proved her correct in every single category….now what? Isn’t that exactly where she stands today? Does she think with a survey in hand Iraq will all of a sudden agree with her? Does she believe the world, after reading her survey, will throw the Kurds out and put her there? I mean, what’s the POINT? Unless it’s just to show off her recently acquired skill to design a study…and maybe get funded because it will “prove we are right”. Hell, we already KNOW that! Or think we do. And no Muslim is going to accept her study or any study. You might as well believe that if you conduct a poll or survey, as scientific as you like, and prove that Bush attacked Iraq on trumped up charges and illegally too, that he, or we, would apologize for our errors and get out. Not likely. The issue isn’t proving our claims are valid…even if we could. Clearly that’s not important. The issue is what we DO about it…even with Magpie’s scientific proof? The answer is; Nothing. And we already know that. It seems that in the absence of any tangible results to anything we claim is due us, we’ve learned to take satisfaction in talking, in complaining and in begging. What Magpie suggests isn’t something that will lead to action or results…she just wants to reaffirm and fix for all time our good REASON to be beggars. --------------------- |
