My favorite female vocalist, heroine, activist, and rebel who's rendition of the song "Strange Fruit" written by a New York teacher who adopted the Rosenberg children after the U.S. Government executed (legally murdered) their parents since Jews were all "Bolsheviks" (just as all Muslims are all "Terrorists"). Each time I hear her singing the tune which was first sung by "Lady Day" Billie Holliday, I feel chills run up and down my spine. This giant of music, of life, of suffering (since the Secret Police never left her alone... and as the lady that she was, she didn't give a fuck!) She did a better, soulful rendition of Edith Piaf's "Ne Me Quitte Pas" (my opinion), but since we live in the "United States of Amnesia", as Gore Vidal astutely observed, I'd like to share this chilling, reminder that not much has changed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktsU01lfzLU --------------------- |
