Weare a funny people. Before completing and installing the Ashurbanipal Monument peoplesaid it was too much of a long shot...and you have toadmit, when you consider how we´ve found it impossible to set up a single school, that wasn´t a church annex...or much of anythign else of "real" importance, that the odds of gettingenough money from Assyrians for ART..for a public monument, no less, wpould be pretty slim to nothing. And then, right after we pulled it off, the same people reacted like it was no big deal..like they could have done too, if only they´d wanted to but they were too busy with the REAL stuff...with getting back Assyria, defeating the Arabs, Turks and Qurds, getting reparations for centuries of lost treasure etc and etc. As impossible as it seemed at the time to create the first Assyrian public monument anywhere in 2500 years...it was achievable, if you had your head on straight and were really serious and prepared to do actual battle...after all, the United States alone is filled with public monuments reflecting the cultures which have made up America...so there is evidence that it CAN be done....no matter how challenging. But our assyrian nationalists are on saferground because no one has EVER pulled off what theyclaim to be workign at...not even the Israelis...for all our misundertanding about how they got their "homeland" back and about how far we are, as a people, from Euro Jews, who are, after all, the ones who "got" Israel. But people like Aprim and Jassim and Malek-Yona prefer it this way...oh yes, and Maggie too, that great provider of a forumw here bad jokes can go to die...they far prefer an impossible goal...because it is never in danger of being achiieved, hence they don´t really have to do anyserious work, except knowck everyone who isn´t engaged in their same "great task"...for which all they can really do, and have done, is talk, talk and more talk. It´s like deciding you´re going to walk to the moon and making it your life´s goal. What the hell can you actually do to BEGIN...how do you PREPARE...what groundwork do you lay? What besides talking about it a lot and maybe taking a practise hike or two? What can Maggie actually DO about getting back assyria? The answer is exactly what she´s been doing, nothing at all. But it SOUNDS great and all themore so because it doesn´t require any real effort on her part, just talk and more talk...and lately she doesn´t even seem to have time for that...even that has become too much! But, she and the rest are PLANNING on Great Things!!! Strike that...they are DREAMING of great things...there isn´t even a plan on offer to achieve anything. --------------------- |
