...here they are again...the very words of Jesus as written in the gospel of St John. John 6:53-56 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. ...you notice Jesus says, "I tell you the truth". Jesus wasn't interested in "universal truths"...he was interested in telling his followers of HIS truths...the truths his God told him to pass along to all those who would be Christians...the truth of the beliefs and rituals which would make them true believers of Jesus. ...his next line is, "unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you"....where's the confusion? Where's the metaphor? What symbollism? How much more clear and stark can a statement be...if you don;t eat me you will have no life....period. and..."whoever eats my flesh remains in me, and I in him" What more could he have said to make his meaning clearer? ..and yet Minime now wants to discuss "the meaning of truth"...thinking he can somehow prove that Jesus didn;t really mean what he said. But this isn't surprising...born-agains, like Minime, all derive from Protestant sects who insisted that individuals could interpret the bible for themselves...fine, let them....who gives a shit? ...but where's the "interpreting" to be done in this quote from Jesus? What is ambiguous? What remains in doubt? He SAYS his flesh is "real food". If people are going to water down this passage any way they need to then they make a mockery of the notion that these are the WORDS OF GOD"...clearly they aren't if every runt can interpret them any way he wants and call everyone ELSE who does the same but comes up with a different meaning, a liar and someone who "doesn't understand universal truths". You can see why Christians were despised from the very beginning and had it not been for Roman arms, this pathetic religion would have died a quick death or maintained a few outposts wherever Roman armies didn;t enforce compliance. --------------------- |
