...religion is like a doctor who brings you the disease...and then comes back a week later after your fever has peaked and you're crapping your heart out, with the injection that will save you, from the infection that HE gave you...and on top of that he wants your thanks and 10% of your salary too. People who are critical of religion still say "weel, it comforts people so why take it away"? Itīs presented as their consolation etc. But is it? The clue is that none of them trusts their message enough to allow a child to grow to maturity, with a serious education, before bombarding them with heaven and hell and the rest of it. "Take religion away and who knows what crimes will be committed". if thatīs true then you know exactly whatīs wrong with religion...it assumes there is no other way to teach human beans but to first scare the shit out of them and then "comfort" them...very like parents who get a child to "behave" by saying theyīll need a shot if they keep crying, or keep talking...or that the police will come. It works...but does it really? can a person grow helthy and happy with such a start in life? Does being a decent human bean have to be implanted through fear and bribes? I donīt think so... It takes more time and patience and maybe a real interest in humans and human children to get a child to "stop" whatever it is that must be stopped, assuming it really needs to be. Sure, a short-cut is tempting and comes in handy sometimes...but religion is all the time... When you use threats and bribes you teach the child that the things you say are wrong, are only wrong if the child gets CAUGHT. We donīt expect a grownup to keep sucking on a pacifier because it "pacifies" her...we want that person to grow strong, to mature, to stop using crutches and aides...because they wonīt really mature otherwise. --------------------- |
