...let's go through it carefully. Anyone can check their Bible to affirm this quote. John 6:53-56 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, ...okay, Jesus says "I tell you the TRUTH"...he isn't interested in Minime's truth, or even universal truth, or yours or mine...he is telling us HIS truth, which becomes truth for his church and folowers. unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. ...this is a very stark and bold statement. It advocates a crime so clearly that if Jesus did NOT mean he would have known enough to make it abundantly clear that it was NOT to be taken literally...where is the metaphor...how is this an allegory...what is his flesh supposed to "stand for"? Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ...this command tells us that there is no eternal life, which is the supreme promise of Christianity except through eating him and drinking him...in other words you MUST participate in what can only be called a crime...he doesn't say "my flesh represents...." He simply states that you have to eat his flesh and drink his blood...which is EXACTLY what millions and millions of Christians have faithfully believed and been taught for centuries...how can anyone doubt this? ASK THEM!!! They'll tell "it's real flesh" and "real blood",,,,why not ASK THEM? ..YOU may believe they're mistaken, or got it wrong, that was never the issue...the issues was what do THEY BELIEVE and practise and WHERE did they get this information from? For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. ...that word, "real", seems specifically to be placed there to make sure Jesus wasn't talking in allegorical terms...else why use it? Words have MEANING...maybe not for us, but certainly for the son of God... ...He says, "REAL food" and "REAL drink". Where is the ambiguity? Where is the metaphor? ..."real food" means just what it says, that we are being asked to look upon the wafer as "real food" and "real flesh"....he says my flesh is REAL FOOD. to make it an allegory he would have said my "word" is real food, for it nourishes you and sustains you and gives you eternal life...or my "presence" is as real food that nourishes etc. ...but he doesn't beat around the bush...he doesn't leave it open to doubt...he uses HIS flesh as REAL food. And we all know what REAL food is...the bark of trees isn't real food for humans...stones aren't real food...we know what "real" food is...it is what we put in our mouths and chew and live off of...and, in addition, those who partake of the Eucharist are admonished NOT to chew the wafer. Why? If it's just an allegory, what's the harm in biting on it? You're told not to because it is the real flesh of Jesus and you should not bite it...it has to melt in your mouth. On top of which Christians believed that if you stabbed the wafer it would bleed...does anyone think bread will bleed when stabbed? Is it "symbollic blood"...but people SEE it! Then what is it...red water? Red syrup? That "red liquid" that supposedly comes when the wafer is poked can only come from REAL MEAT...not bread. --------------------- |
