It's now becoming increasingly evident, that the agricultural revolution of the Neolithic era of around 10,000 to 30,000 years ago had an enormous impact of the genetic substructures of Europe. It was a series of migrations by farmers from the Middle East into hunter gatherer territory. These migrations resulted in contact with more divergent groups, which subsequently provoked the eventual amalgamation of these groups. Which unfortunately, led to the extinctions of some hunter gather populations. Despite this however, the peopling of Europe introduced the concepts of farming, animal husbandry, cultivation and civilization.

It was a new form of survival, no longer did they have to perform the tedious and haphazard act of hunting and gathering for food. Nearly all European populations today are partly descended from the Neolithic migrants, as demonstrated by all the aDNA, Y-DNA and mtDNA studies conducted on them. The populations who evince the closest genetic affinities to these ancient Middle Eastern peoples are Southern Europeans. Southern Europeans, particularly Greeks and Southern Italians, seem to have received the most gene flow from the Neolithic migrants that colonized European from the Middle East tens of thousands of years ago. In addition that, the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Moors, etc. seem to have contributed some genetic signatures to the local population in Sicily and Malta as well.

Propagaton of Neolithic (Ancient Middle Eastern) Admixture in Europe by population in descending order.

South Italy : 49.0
Sicilian : 48.4
Greece : 47.5
Central Italy: 40.8
Tuscan : 37.7
Bulgarians : 36.5
Romanian : 34.3
North Italy : 28.4

Hungarians : 19.2
Belorussian : 15.2
Polish : 14.4
Russian : 13.1
Spain: 12.8
German : 11.5

So the next you hear an Assyrian proudly proclaim that he/she more similar to a Greek or an Italian. Kindly remind them that these people are partly of ancient Middle Eastern origin. And it's that that WE are like them, it's that THEY are like us.
