...slavery was no longer feasible....at one time slaves had been a positive factor in building the ancient world with all its great walls, cities and monuments etc. But in time salvery acted as a drag against society...it became a force holding human development back...not advancing it. The same is true for Feudalism...it too served a useful purpose until it wore out its function and became a shackle impeding further development...and now it is capitalisms turn...capitalism served its purpose, but it has morphed into games and robbery and lies and tricks...because there are no grand enterprises it can fund which will give a large enough return to make it worthwhile...why, when gambling and Enron-style tricks and derivatives can make so much more profit? There are fewer and fewer capitalists willing to open factories and wait thirty years to accrue their interest...same with banks...it just takes too long and is not appealling enough. The proposition that private individuals and corporations will provide the jobs and hence the food and clothing and education and taxes with which to pay for all these is simply untenable in this day and age....we have ever growing world-wide needs...to secure the planet´s environment for one, that private capital simply will not touch....so what do we do...collapse? Allow diseases to run rampant, families to live on the street, as we´ve begun to get comfortable allowing? What happens when there are no jobs on offer,,,as is already happening and will happen again and again? while our cities, countries and planet deteriorate because there is no profit to be had in addressing those needs? Sure, companies are getting into solar panels because they think there is money to be made..and they will make money...but not enough in the long run because it takes money to buy those panels...and with no jobs where is the money to come from? We´re at one of those histotical crisis points, made much more severe by the looming environmental damage, where a serious shift in thinking has to take place before this idea will take hold: that the primary and most important thing in a society and planet is quality of basic life for everyone...and the realization that our prosperity can no longer depend on the brainstorms (good and bad) of a few individuals and companies who, no matter what the idea, will first and foremost cause more environmental damage and a reduction of raw materials, including clean air, water and earth. The world can no longer affords capitalism..it is a drag on society, on development, on the future. --------------------- |
