Washington Post correspondent Jason Rezaian has been convicted by a Revolutionary Court in Iran, according to state-run media. ...he was convicted of espionage...ok, so it's bullshit and "espionage" is defined so loosely and fluidly that almost anyone can be accused of it if a government wants to shut down honest journalism. ..so what about Snowden? At least we can say that Iran has been consistently brutal and dishonest in its treatment of journalists who displease them...so how then to do we explain our own behavior? 40 years ago Ellsberg stole the Pentagon Papers and had them published...and he has said many times that if he did that today he'd be rotting in prison somewhere....Snowden did no worse than Ellsberg, yet we treated them very differently. Iran hasn't changed, but we have. We have become more Iranian over the years. --------------------- |
