...I've posted the definition of "Diaspora" many times. The dictionary makes a point of saying that the word is only capitalized when referring to the Jewish Diaspora...in all other cases it must be written in the small case. We may believe we suffered a "diaspora"...but we did NOT suffer the Diaspora.

...here's the dictionary:

Etymology: Greek, dispersion, from diaspeirein to scatter, from dia- + speirein to sow

1. capitalized a: the settling of scattered colonies of Jews outside Palestine after the Babylonian exile b: the area outside Palestine settled by Jews c: the Jews living outside Palestine or modern Israel

...as we can see the definition starts with the word "capitalized"...meaning that whenever the word is capitalized in ONLY refers to the Jews. In all other cases, where the meaning is general, you use the smaller case.

...in reply we'll be told that "we have our own dictionaries"...sigh. But if we wish to not make fools of ourselves it would behoove us to use English language words as THEY are defined by the people whose language it is...just as we tell our youngsters that it's most important to learn their own language well and speak it accurately...yet when it comes to English, we show no interest at all in being accurate...or how we might be perceived by people who understand not only the real meaning of the words we throw around but what we are trying to achieve by such sloppy usage which, in this case as with "genocide" and "Holocaust" is a shabby attempt to benefit from the experience of the Jews by tricking people into believing we suffered anywhere near to what they did at the hands of Christians...but in our case, at the hands of Muslims. The two share no similarity whatsoever.
