At the same time we say we have great pride in ourselves, we insult the only one among us who’s achieved distinction, in the outside world, in studying our recent history. We have no end of self-proclaimed experts who preach to the choir, to enraptured audiences who love to hear of their direct ancestry to Ashurbanipal, taking credit for all that was ever invented by all the people who did “disappear”, while they managed to remain intact and self-aware…and how? Because they became Christian…go figure. Then comes Parpola, a Finn, who’s himself living on the indigenous lands of the people his people stole from…like every assyrian who has no trouble occupying stolen land in America and Australia…and who reads ancient history to discover, lo and behold, that every pet notion of Sargon and Nineveh and Ashur and Jennifer and Scott happens to be true…and Jesus was “almost” Assyrian and it meant “almost” nothing that the ancients gave up their language and religion, as if those were trifling matters in their day…and, if you’ll send him a donation he’ll find further evidence that you really ARE the grandchild of Ashurbanipal…and this pleases everyone as the “latest research”. With no hint that any bias is operating here. Then we come to politics…which we also don’t understand. Our approach to it is like everything else, tainted by religion. After all the definitions of politics ever invented are sifted together, what remains is what some sage said, whose name I can’t remember and maybe no one can…but it rings true; Politics is the art of compromise. There’s a lot behind such a simple statement…but which of us will see anything but TRAITORS at work when we read that? What is it the assyrians want, politically? In the first place they want nothing in the West…I mean nothing apart from or different than what the institutions allow to everyone…except for some official denunciation of the Turks for their “genocide”. Tell them of the over 700,000 Iraqi children already killed by Christian Sanctions, and they’ll tell you that was a “price of war”…remind them that the other war also had its price and you’ll be a traitor again. And another thing; while ever action by a national of a Muslim country is billed as a Muslim thing…they resent like hell being reminded that Christians also do nasty things. A an attack, where Muslims are concerned, is a “Muslim attack”….an attack by Americans is an “attack by Americans”…you’ll never see any attacks referred to by the name of the Christians behind it…never. This prejudicial use of the name of the religion, as a whole, to describe the acts of individuals is exactly what Christians did when they singled out individual behavior among Jews…it was ALL Jews who were responsible…but it is NEVER Christians responsible…when it’s our turn we resent it as “prejudicial” and “unfair” to call our criminal by the religion’s name. So, what do Assyrians want politically? As with all their assyrian demands, the place where they insist their heritage “make a presence” happens to be in Iraq…never anywhere else. Their demands are mostly for a section where they can rule themselves because, they claim, they get persecuted everywhere else. Of course it is never said just how seizing the lands presently and for some time occupied by others, lands surrounded by exceptionally furious Iraqis and others, is going to provide any security at all. The main complaint of Islam against its own Christians, for hundreds of years, has been their susceptibility to being used by foreign Christians, meaning Westerners, who always claim to be coming to their rescue and hinting support for their “own country”…often from situations made dangerous by the very same people and their unauthorized interference in Muslim nations. If Muslim nations have consistently refused to admit any legitimacy to Christian claims that they are owed anything special, in particular “their” lands returned to them as assyrians…what sign of hope is there that after this most recent illegal and inhumane war against the civilians of a nation, by their co-religionists who were cheered as “liberators”, that did nothing to deserve it, there is any possibility of this occurring now…or ever? Politcis isn’t religion…in religion you can have all the faith and hope you can stomach…in politics you need results and will get them, whether you like them or not...and if you embark on a road, it’s either going to go well or poorly…reality simply will not stand still until Isaiah gets off his ass. If you “demand” a country, from inside that country…consequences will begin to follow immediately…for this is nothing more than sedition and no nation on earth will tolerate sedition..in fact, it’s illegal everywhere, including America and Britain. Once you make that charge, make that demand…things will happen. Events will not freeze and remain unchanging until you “get what we deserve.” Or rather you WILL get what you deserve and it won’t be to your liking either…making what you claimed was a bad enough situation even worse…never better. Which brings us to the real issue; who is making these demands? Is it the people within the country? I think not. In fact that’s our major gripe against Kenna now; that he never made these demands in Iraq, which we extracted from him outside Iraq, as the price of our “support”. The man’s no fool. There’s plenty of evidence in Iraq already,,,as there is throughout the history of every nation, of what happens to those who make such demands…which center around the present government being accused of being in power illegally and withholding justice from a minority. All those “patriots” who made these demands under Saddam, paid the same price Native Americans did when they made similar demands in the 70s and at any time before that; they were attacked by government agents, murdered or forced to defend themselves in gunbattles where they were decisively outnumbered, or imprisoned, often on trumped up charges…but the point was that the government was legally empowered to move against them…in any way it saw fit. And this is what our “martyrs” got when they made similar claims for their “indigenous” lands back…and should they dare do it again, they’ll get more of the same. All Muslims know, from Israel’s example, that a small Christian nation, surrounded on all sides and landlocked, cannot survive on its own without massive aid and involvement from the Christian West…the same people murdering and robbing them now. Our Assyrians may welcome such aid and support…no doubt eagerly for the sake of skimming the wealth, but it would be more of the same tragedy they set themselves up so many times before…when Muslims saw that the Christians sided with and became the ready excuse for further interference in their nations…for a provocation can always be said to exist that requires “help” from outside Christian nations. It’s a no-brainer….which could be the reason we think it can succeed. It is, moreover, the Assyrians outside, safely outside, Iraq who are making these demands…and why? Do they plan on returning? From sentimental feelings many insist they will…but I think not. The Jews were forced to Israel because they felt safe nowhere else…not in any Christian countries…I seriously doubt many would have moved willingly to Haifa in the 1920s had there been any other and advanced Jewish nations to welcome them. Our people have their pick of several Christian nations, among the most advanced in the world….the likelihood that they’ll rush back to a small enclave devastated by war and surrounded by hostility, especially as they paint the “bloodthirsty” Muslims, is very, very minute. Aside from the demand for their own country, is there anything else in their politics? In the West they’ve done precious little that wasn’t involved with the church…there are no assyrian hospitals, universities, museums, symphony orchestras, dance troups, theater companies…nothing. The only thing there is of a cultural nature is a public monument, built, oddly enough, by someone who now realizes there is no evidence at all for “lineal descent” and wishes he could change what he carved on the pedestal. But that’s it…at least in any serious form we’d care to share with the world..or the world would be interested in…and it isn’t like any Arab stopped us, no…we stop and assassinate each other….gladly. I believe it’s due to our mental instability that we do so, contributing nothing of our vaunted culture anywhere, so filled are we with hot air that all the faculties of judgment and probity get pushed out in favor of pleasant fluff. More later. --------------------- |
