..continuing from where my grandfather, Baba Parhad, and Freydoun Aturaya, left off. 1. No more relying on anyone to “give” as an Assyria, or anything else we don;t clearly deserve and deserve by actually earning it in the present by our own efforts and not for past “glories” or even losses. 2. There is no longer an Assyria and there will never be, period. There is only Iraq and anyone who lives as a citizen of that country must be loyal to THAT country...certainly changes can and should be made, but made by Iraqis, at their own direction and rate...no more bringing “democracy” to Iraq. 3. People posing as assyrian nationalists must be exposed for the frauds they are. Of course they are less than significant dreamers who've made sure to remove themselves from the possibility of doing any actual work, for a country, or facing the dangers that comes from preaching sedition and treason within Iraq. 4. There is only one regard in which these people are significant and that in the real harm they cause to those of us still in Iraq and those wishing to return. Their only accomplishment, after decades of “national work” has been to cause real damage to our community...killings, retaliation and loss of property and finally self-exile. You only have to imagine a group of Muslims in Afghanistan posting online demands that Afghan-Americans RISE UP and strike a blow for Afghanistan's freedom and independence...just imagine how other Americans, the vast majority, would view their Afghan-American neighbors...it wouldn't matter if those Afghan-Americans swore up and down that they were loyal to the United States, their home, and would never listen to such demands...would never sabotage or betray or work against their neighbors and friends. Who would believe them.....completely? This then is what assyrian nationalists have done to those wishing to remain in Iraq, under all sorts of trying circumstances...they have caused doubt as to their loyalty to Iraq...they have made them objects of suspicion and also convenient outlets for frustrated rage or just plain stupid people wishing to “do something”, something to get back at those they can't reach who are the ones actually attacking their country. No more bullshit...no more calls to form a “parliament in exile”...no more “political parties” whose aim is only to make sure Iraqi Christians remain separate from the rest of Iraqi society...keeping them ignorant, poor and marginalized..but, “pure assyrian”. Anyone who does not encourage Iraqi assyrians to do and behave as they all know how to in America, or Europe and Australia, in Iraq, that is to respect the laws, to strive to join in...to seek to get ahead and prosper and make a better life for all, is preaching the destruction through isolation and irrelevance of all those remaining.. It is a way of reducing their numbers and life expectancy as well as their prosperity and security...that it is done in the name of “assyrianism” is all the worse. Assyrians were never this stupid, they got this way through great but paltry effort. These nationalists are afraid that the assyrians in Iraq will get along, live in peace, prosper, intermarry even...that is their real fear, because then there will be no basis for their fantasy of needing their own private assyria...actually this is what AINA and others have been doing for years; desperately lying to poison the waters in Iraq so that no assyrian CAN live in peace with his neighbors and fellow-countrymen.and we here, in the mistaken notion of helping the assyrians back home have only widened the gap already separating them from the rest of the society...this too is done with the idea of “saving the assyrian identity” no matter how hard it makes life for the actual people OF that identity. Sadly, we have been using those people...seeking to gain that “golden opportunity” we thought these wars would bring...where would that “opportunity” be if the assyrians there assimilated and moved right in to a life side by side with their fellows? Actually life was that way...and that too is something AINA and other assyrian “nationalists” can't stand...THAT is the only “enemy” they are fighting...the enemy of assyrian ACCEPTANCE in Iraq, but as Iraqis and not some throw-back Troglodytes of another era, long vanished. The enemy of the nationalist is his own kind, his own kind who won;t join him in his fantasy....and they are OUR enemies...and we've kicked the shit out of them! --------------------- |
