...took this from an article about the Navajo tribe suing a company for using the word "Navajo" to describe their merchandise...

"When Congress amended the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990, it did so after studies showed that 'fake' Indian products were siphoning millions from the market for products created by citizens of federally recognized tribes," said Kristen Carpenter, a professor of law at the University of Colorado who specializes in Native American property rights."

...that's the key, "....federally recognized tribes..."....or people, or minority or whatever...but FEDERALLY recognized as in recognized by he legal authority of the government and not self-proclaimed, individual, whim and fancy.

..and you have to have the official recognition of YOUR government, not that of Britain, when you are in Iraq, asking the Iraqi government for "your rights as assyrians". The Iraqi government has never officially recognized assyrian Christians as the "indigenous people" of Iraq/Assyria...never and they never will. And if we are not to "trample the rights of a nation" we have to respect Iraq's right to define its own policies and not have them imposed long-distance.

..in fact the Iraqi government has never and still doesn't, recognize Qurdish claims....but the difference is that Qurds stayed THERE and fought...they didn't run to London or Chicago and start TALKING a lot. King George also didn;t recognize the Colonists claim to America but THEY stayed there and fought....let the assyrians stay somewhere and fight for something...if they win, they can claim it as theirs. But that's the only way.
