..it began with the mythical Abgar who only converted to Christianity because he was healed by Jesus...or rather by a letter from Jesus. He had no other motive for converting than the benefit he´d receivedfrom a new "god"...so "goodbye" old god...then centuries later when assyrians are Church of the East and living in peace among the Sassanians, the Romans go and convert to Christianity and so fearing the suspicions of their overlords, our Christians adopt Nestorianism, of which they knew nothing, for the simple and expedient reason that this might ease Sassanid suspicion because the followers of Nestorius were heretics and so unlikely to be welcomed and used by Rome... Move forward several more centuries and Euro Roman Catholics have come looking to re-convert Nestorians and they use their wealth and promises of political security to get Nestorians to convert back, purely for the advantages promised....soon after Protestant missionaries come from the West, also offering tea and books and money and coal and food and so Nestorians covert to Presbyterianism, Lutheranism, Anglicanism, and Penticostalism, chever pays the best, and all for the same reasons, all of them having nothing to do with Jesus but everything to do with the opportunities dangled before them by sales reps from these branches of the same fucking religion. And of course, the most blatant example of opportunism of all, these Christians convince themselves and worse, brainwash their children into believing, that they are the only and direct descendants of the ancient Assyrians, though they despise the Assyrians for not being nice to Jews, so they adopt this identity from the Euros because they think they have a golden opprtunity to gain a Christian enclave they´ll call Nineveh. No morals...no scruples, no heartfelt anything except a desire to benefit, here on earth, by espousing whichever religion and identity might pay the most. A history of opprtunism and a lack of conviction has left us with what you see on these other forums...people still begging, still seeking opprtunities where they can at whatever cost to their souls. It shows. --------------------- |
