From "A Peace to End All Peace", an account of the Ottomans in WW I... "...and as the war went on, Russian (Christian) and Ottoman troops surged back and forth, moving through and occupying Persian territory at will" p 209 This is consistent with what my great-uncle Malik, who fought with Agha Poutrous said to me. At times the Russian forces would occupy assyrian towns in Urmia, only to leave and be replaced by Ottoman soldiers...and back and forth until the Russians left for good after their Revolution....the last time there they left behind weapons and ammunition for the Christians. Our people suffered because every time the Russian armies came we took their side against our Muslim neighbors....and paid the price when the Ottomans came back and took their own revenge....again, our people suffered for that they DID (treason), not for what they were (Christians)....it was their betrayals, their treason, in aiding an enemy that finally led to the massacres and the exodus of Christians. And we still do the same...and did it again during WW II....we never learn. We always imagine that we are suffering great "persecution" at the hands of Muslims and believing this we take sides with the foreign Christian invaders, succeeding only in making our position much WORSE, for which we blame, naturally, anyone but US and our treachery. We did again in the recent war against Iraq...again we "believed", we had "faith" we had "hope" that THIS time, finally!, the foreign Christians, in this case America and its allies, would DO SOMETHING FOR US. To reach this conclusion we used our FAITH, our BELIEF and our HOPE...and all of them based on NOTHING...had we bothered with History, had we read a book other than the bible, we would have KNOWN, we would have read the FACTS of what had ACTUALLY happened, and we might have acted with some small wisdom...instead of, dare I say it?, believing in GRANDMOTHERS! --------------------- |
