...Aquafina "bottled water" will have to now carry a disclaimer that its water comes from a tap...there are beginning to be many such incidents...Enron, the Stock Market scams, "news" outlets and of course, the grandaddy of all corporate scams, the war on Iraq. ...Capitalism, the push to make greater and greater profits leads, inevitably to lies and criminal behavior as new ways of amassing greater and greater fortunes dwindle...just try to imagine our economy of the last 20 years without the invention of computers. ..but in time, especially as the cosporations gain more and more political power to achieve increasingly short-sighted and purely profit-oriented goals, meant to satisfy stockholders and not benefit the people...capitalism will come down to starting wars as a way of doing "business"...and then the end is near. ..It sort of happened with the Nazis, whose growth was fueled by corporations who then sought to profit from the war Hitler said was inevitable...remember what happend to the German people themselves when the war went bankrupt. ..American government seeks increasingly to USE its own citizenry as the means by which wealth can be amassed...it seeks to "privatize"...not to make things more efficient and keep costs down, as they claim...but, as Michael Moore shows, to create a profit source for corporations out of all proportions to the supposed benefits they bring us. ...healthy goverment treats its citizens as an end, in themselves, and not the means to an end. You see this clearly in the difference between our private health care system, which must create profits..and the European, Canadian and Cuban plan...which eliminates the need to invent methods by which profit can be made....our's USES the health needs of individuals to create profit....the others use their PROFITS to meet the needs of their citizens. --------------------- |
