...any sentient, sane human bean knows that a religious belief isn't immune from the Law or common decency...it is the religious belief of Mormons that they can have more than one wife...but they can't do it, legally...and the media know this too...they're just playing dumb to keep people reading and drive up their advertising rates, because so many more people are reading this nonsense.... "Those who've signed the IStandWithPhil.com petition are asking for their "views (to) be treated with equality and respect in America's rich rainbow of diversity," and for the "network to immediately reinstate Mr. Robertson to 'Duck Dynasty,' and to formally apologize to him, his family, and the millions of viewers who tune in every week, stand by him, and share his worldview." ...hateful religious beliefs are not sacred....if your religion tells you to insult a whole swath of Americans who have done you no harm, or anyone else, you don;t get to "practice those beliefs"...you are not entitled to hate people or condemn people...and certainly no network has to allow you to do it on their time. People like Bill O'Rieley and Sarah Palin and the rest of them are very careful not to have sane intelligent guests on their shows because they would demolish all this "outrage"...so they avoid them and instead get hacks and easy marks. The few times Bill has appeared with Jon Stewart you get the distinct feeling that part of the deal was that Stewart would play softball with Bill....no way Bill could stand up to Stewart without some protection....plus which, ever notice how none of these guys are actually funny? They try to make jokes but they all fall flat while writers and comics have a field day with conservatives and Christians especially...why is that? No wonder the O'Rieleys need protection...what I wouldn't give to have a go at him! ...that "world view" is a dinosaur's world view...Gay marriage is coming to more and more states...drugs are being legalized...religion is being treated as it richly deserves, like "legalized madness", as Janov said....like a "neurological disorder" as Maher says...and the not-majority of Americans are changing...and conservatives don;t like it and so they're trying to pretend that bigotry and hate are "religious freedom issues"...good, let them...makes the case against them all the better. --------------------- |
