Are Assyrians just Christian sects?

No, we are not religious sects.

Oh, good, then can I be an Assyrian even though I'm Muslim?

No, Muslims can't be Assyrians, we are an ethnic group.

But ethnic groups aren't determined by their religion but by their ethnicity and origins and shared culture. I share everything you do except religion, but my ethnicity is the same.

Even if your ethnic origin is the same, you are not part of our Assyrian Nation.

Are people in your nation only Christians?

No, we are an ethnicity.

Can I be of the same ethnicity? I mean our families lived side by side for 1000 years and except for religion we pretty much share everything else.

We're not just an ethnic group, we are a nation.
