This little devil sez.... "Anyway, recently, a book was released by Christoph Baumer titled "The Church of the East: An Illustrated History of Assyrian Christianity". When one checks Baumer's profile on the net, one can hardly find an unbiased writer like him. Even though I haven't finished reading this book, I highly recommend it. It traces the roots of, and explains, everything Assyrians went through from the first century up till recent times, including all the different names others labeled us with and the reasons for them... ...if you recall this little devil said he had read "plenty of books" on the subject...and now he brings us one book...although, if you also recall, he said people who read ONE book(meaning me and Dr Joseph's book, which is hardly the only book I've read) and THINK they "know it all" etc...apparently he's one of those kinds...or will be when he finishes this one book. Anyway, you'll notice how, by his own admission he too lied...for he says right here that he's not yet finished with this book...had he read any others, you can be sure he would have put them here...but this is his FIRST book and even at that he isn't done with it yet. ...he also sez.."When one checks Baumer's profile on the net, one can hardly find an unbiased writer like him." ..well, I DID check....google mentions one book by him (under his name), and it isn't this one...it's about Tibetan religions... I distinctly told them NOT to bring us books written by Christians who're all trying desperately to PROVE and sustain this initial error of calling Nestorians Assyrians...In logic, which this devil claims to know all about, this is called "begging the question"...I'll leave it to the little devil to look it up... ...just because Nestorians were found living atop 6000 year old ruins doesn't make them the same people, by lineal decsent no less, as those ancient people whose artifacts are buried under them...with that logic we're all Neandrathals...come to think of it.... ..I can find no biographical information on the author at all...so it would be nice if the little devil could share whatever it is about Baumer that convinced him, "one can hardly find an unbiased writer like him". ...The authors, so-called, these people find are ALL Christian hacks...taking for granted that the Nestorians ARE direct blah blah blah...what they love about us is this notion that the ancients were once so powerful and mighty and PROUD and, you know, SUCCESSFUL, delighting in their paganism, which allowed them to build half of our civilization...but they rejected it for JESUS...and look at them NOW!!! Now that they are SAVED! ...yeah.......look. ..this is ONE book...and it isn't even a book...it certainly isn't a serious book...just more pop-culture. But of course, this book isn't for the pancho like who use "super logic" to conclude that after the fall of the Assyrian Empire, Assyrians just EVAPORATED. " ...no one said they did...where are the Sumerians...the Hittites...the people of Mittani..of Ebla...of Susa....did they all EVAPORATE? Is that what you're telling us...that all these people evaporated and exist no more but the Assyrians survived intact??? Is that about it? ..scholars all agree that the Assyrians did not disappear....they did, however, lose themselves after their military might was gone and their lands were overrun by a succession of people and cultures, chief among them the Aramaic, Greek, Persian and Roman...they forgot their Akkadian language, which is the language used in ALL the tablets recovered...and, as you all admit, when you forget your language you forget everything else....they BLENDED and mixed...as did every other group of people...none of whom were wiped out... ...they only hapeenbd to remember Aramaic because it is the liturgical language of their churches...had Jesus spoken Chinese..... ...a Google search under the title, "The Church of the East", brings this: The church of the East : an illustrated history of Assyrian Christianity /... ISBN: 184511115X UPC/EAN: 9781845111151 Notes: Includes bibliographical references (p. 307-316) and index. ...try as I might I could find no publisher named at all...and then my eye was caught by "PUBLISHED/CREATED"...and I knew...this is not a legitimate publisher at all...this is one of those print-for-hire outfits who will print anyhting YOU pay for, like Magpie accused Dr Joseph of doing..in other words it is precisely the kind of pop-history/comic book, reaffirming whatever prejudices you may hold...had the manuscript for this book been submitted to a REAL publisher (and I'm sure Bummer would have LOVED to try it) it would have been rejected. ...this is hardly a scholarly work...it is written with a huge bias that the Nestorians are what they claim...and Dr Joseph's book is about how they came to make this claim...and, I point out again, all these people KNOW the Euros INVENTED "Chaldeans"...they have said it over and over...they do NOT accept the same bullshit "prooves" when the Chaldeans do it..and then turn right around and spin bullshit of their own. ..this is the kind of "scholarship" these people extoll...why? Because it's so fucking easy to get whatever you want "printed"...."Mein Kampf" would have been "published" by such an enterprise. ...There remains the question of just what kind of publisher accepts any kind of manuscript from someone like Baumer. The book on Tibet was published by a "Weatherhill Publications", which is now owned by "Shambala". ...I've lifted a few phrases they use to describe themselves...I urge anyone to check for more. Here are some comments from their web site "Still, religion and philosophy remain the heart of our publishing program." "The notion of translating spiritual insight into action in the world is embodied in the company's name: "Shambhala" is a legendary Central Asian kingdom that symbolizes an enlightened way of life harmonizing the inner and outer worlds." Meditation and alternative healing have gained wide acceptance, natural foods are sold at the corner supermarket, it's no longer weird to do yoga, and books on Buddhism are sold in nearly every bookstore." ..."legend" is nice...but it ain't history...there may be a "history" of legends...but that's all it is...a HISTORY of how legends came to be etc. Only history...studied as a DISCIPLINE under rigorous guidelines with peer review of the highest magnitude qualifies as "history". ...Shambala was stared by two hippies in Berkeley...they specialize in new-agey sorts of things...I doubt they seriously vete any manuscript..I think if it SOUNDS like it can make a buck, they publish it. Bottom line is the book dealing with so-called Assyrians in an "unbiased" way was printed by one of those job shops where bad books go to die. The printing of it was paid for by someone OTHER than those who "published"..there are a LOT of Christian "publishers" pulling this crap...it's nothing more than propaganda...which is all this little devil is bringing us as PROOF well, half- proof, that he too has read BOOKS! ..next! --------------------- - BACK TO INDEX - REPLY - QUOTE - EDIT - DELETE -
