...of Hitchens, Harris and Dawkins, the last one seems to be the more purely scientific and therefore it is even more shocking to read this...speaking of the role of mistranslations in religion... "The only competitor for the title of champion constructive mistranslation of all time also concerns virgins (the winner is the mother of Jesus being a virgin, mine). Ibn Warraq has hilariously argued that in the famous promise of seventy-two virgins to every Muslim martyr, 'virgins' is a mistranslation of 'white raisins of crystal clarity'. Now, if only that had been more widely known, how many innocent victims of suicide missions might have been saved"? ...HaHa. How about "if only it had been more widely known" (or anyone bothered to know) that Bush and his gang were lying about Iraq, how many innocent victims of America's murderous mission might have been saved? ..is Dawkins also really saying that if not for Muhammad and Islam, and virgins too, Muslims would NOT be angry and fighting back at these Christian jihads? If there was no promise of anything, except the chance to fight ones oppressor, would Muslims not be risking their lives to get Whitey out of their countries? For a scientist dedicated to understanding natural phenomena, and people are natural, and for looking for the underlying reasons and NOT taking things on faith, neither faith in the Pope nor in Presidents, Dawkins seems too gullible when it comes to the lying propaganda about Islam...would he have been as gullible when Jews were the target? Even the target of "science"? Does he not see what Israel and the Christian war against Jews has to do with Muslim anger? Does he see no reason, no scientific reason, for Muslim anger? is it all just his own "faith-based" belief, without investigation or Reason, that Islam simply causes violence, any violence, that propels him to make such a sick joke? I feel like a rational man telling Christians, in 1939, that Jews do not deserve the treatment they are getting and that beliefs about Jews are based on prejudice and not fact. Christians were too wedded to their prejudices then...and they are still too infatuated with them now...these people NEED irrationality...it is at the core of their "dearest beliefs"...they also need someone to hate...hate enough to murder. --------------------- |
