CNN has a story about how consumer confidence has SOARED under Trump....really? It's understandable why there is suddenly more hope on Main Street these days. While the Conference Board didn't mention President Trump by name, it would appear that average Americans -- much like small business owners and CEOs -- are excited about the possibility of tax reform and stimulus. "Consumers' assessment of current business and labor market conditions improved considerably. Consumers also expressed much greater optimism regarding the short-term outlook for business, jobs and personal income prospects," said Lynn Franco, director of economic indicators at The Conference Board, in a release. ...on Main Street, where poorer and poorer people live, they are excited by Trump? Average Americans are "excited" by the possibility of tax reform? Say what? Increasing numbers of people on Main Street don't pay any income tax because they don't earn enough to pay that tax...but they pay plenty others and those aren't going down. ..the people REALLY excited about lower income tax rates are the wealthy, who stand to get even wealthier while the shrinking tax base hurts those on Main Street even more. ...this article smells funny. --------------------- |
