...the verdict is in...he was found guilty of shooting his gun and of attempting to murder the three kids whom he missed....since he wasn't aiming I guess he could have killed them all.....it apparently was easy for the jury to decide that yes, he DID shoot his gun and yes, he DID shoot at all the kids...so he could easily be found guilty of attempted murder and, of course, discharging a firearm....it's true he'll be in jail for the rest of his life, maybe...but that really isn't enough...not that we want him fried or given those meaningless 1000 year sentences...but it's about what happens next and what the jury's inability to reach a verdict on the first degree murder charge means. Had he killed all four kids, the jury would have given him the same "benefit of the doubt" they did for the one kid he did kill...that is, they would have tried to believe the guy really felt threatened and just had to shoot and kill all four kids...after all, four Black kids make up a "gang" and gangs are much scarier than a lone kid...had he killed them all he would have received no jail time and the vagaries of a re-trial...and if they get the wrong jury, he just might walk...or get a much reduced sentence....such is the system. White juries will bend over backwards to give a white killer the benefit of the doubt...he MUST have been afraid, because WE would have been!!!! Stand your ground, with a little finesse, is a license to kill Black kids whom you feel threatened by...and all it takes to make a racist feel threatened is Black skin, a hooded sweatshirt or, now, loud music...in other words ANYTHING, if it's tied to a Black skin! --------------------- |
