Nice article but I do not acccept that the name "Gawar" is derived from the word "Gavur or - Kaffir" as implied.

However, you said:

Can this issue be addressed properly and clarified, because people should know the facts and avoid distorted information or probably mislead by emotional historians as to the real cause prompting the newly established Iraqi government to act improperly against their own citizens. I will not intricate on the cause, reason and the aftermath of juvenile action of our Malekeh leading to the massacre but according to my Grandfather the Assyrians decided to leave Iraq and settle in the Khabour area,from their own accord and they were not exiled.
As a matter of fact the King was furious and offered to assist but his offer was rejected. For your information during the Lebanese crisis of 1957-1958 Kamille Shamoun,who leaned towards “Baghdad Pact” thus angering Abdul Nasser, requested Nouri El-Saeed to allow the Assyrians to migrate and settle in Lebanon thus strengthening the Christian Forces and his answer was: ” I have one FLOWER left and you want to snatch it leaving me with THORNS ”.
We have always played into the hands of Brits.

“Infidel” in Turkish is “Kafir”, sometimes pronounced “Kafour”, the “K” and “F” through centuries may be changed to “G” and “V”, that’s why in Assyrian its written “Gabar” with “Bet Rkikhta”. But until now there is no meaning to “Gawar” in any other language, while many scientist are referring to the meaning of this word as an insult, like the Russian Linguist Anatoly Liberman..

As for the massacres of 1933, Your grandfather is right, the Assyrians decided to leave but according to my Grandfather (Younathan) who was living in the Mar Shimun house, they decided to leave only after a meeting between Colonel Stafford and Mar Ishai when the 1st asked him to ask Malik Yaco and Loko to give up their arms or to LEAVE IRAQ, so there was no other solution than leaving because giving up their arms means suicide. In this case, we can’t say that “Assyrians decided to leave” and stop here.. but they were forced to leave = "exiled".
As for Assyrians being sold to Britain, I would like to ask you something :
Imagine that you are the Assyrian leader in those days, while Arabs, Kurds, Persians and Turks are your enemies, and only one LIAR is giving you a little hope which is to deal with him to survive, what would you do ? Knowing that Arabs and kurds themselves collaborated with England for their independence from the Ottoman Empire, and knowing that Britain is the maker of Iraq. Please answer.
It’s too easy to judge after 80 years when we don’t think as before 80 years in as the decision makers in an enemy surrounding.
