...that since WW I, after the Labor Movement and Unions and such, Power realized it was becoming increasingly harder to control people by force....so, while free speech remained and was touted as the be all and end all of freedom, Power turned to thought control....spreading propaganda, weakening real education and also corporate control of the media....interesting.

...that explains the fact that free speech is almost useless these days...sure, go ahead and "speak freely"...as long as nothing comes of it.
