Maybe, just maybe, Christianity is excusable in the few centuries before the Romans turned Jesus into one of them. After that it became an effective tool of empire, very effective. If you want to rule a people its best they are credulous, that they'll believe the most preposterous things without question. Best yet if they'll come to think that evidence and fact are merely matters of “opinion”...still better if they'll scorn whatever has evidence behind it as being “too easy” and requiring no “faith”. Like those who say “I believe in the promise of Jesus just BECAUSE there is no proof and because it borders on the fantastical"....lack of evidence becomes a higher sort of evidence...of FAITH. The people are now ready to be governed and to their own detriment.
